Abstract:

Minutes from "Disagreement Seminar 9 - Francen (2010)" on 18 Apr 2012 - 15:00

18 Apr 2012
Europe/Rome

From the discussion emerged the appreciation of Francen's mail critical point against assertion relativism (MacFarlane): according to Francen a genuine deep disagreement not only involves that assertions must both concern a circumstance relative to which they are contradictory, but it must also be the case the disputants
think that what they hold is true at the same circumstance relative to which the other disputant thinks that what she holds is true at.

28 Mar 2012

Two points emerged from the discussion:

1) the anaphoric argument against Lasershon's contextual/relativist proposal is problematic to the same extent for the pure contextualist - hence Cappelen and Hawthorne's objection cuts the grounds also to their proposal for taste predicates;

Seba noted that Dan Lopez De Sa's paper suffers of internal tension between the target advanced in the begenning of the paper of "endorsing the appearences of faultless disagreement" and the presuppotional approach.
