OFA9 – Graduate Workshop

12-13 September 2013,

Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon

Call for Abstracts

This call for abstracts is directed at all graduate students and
researchers who have obtained their PhDs in philosophy within the last 2
years. All submitted abstracts must be in English or Portuguese, in the
analytic tradition (broadly construed), with no further restrictions as
regards topics or areas. Final papers will have a short presentation at the
workshop (25 minutes), followed by a commentary (10 minutes) and an open
discussion (40 minutes).

All papers are pre-read, to maximise time for discussion. Speakers will
presuppose that all participants have read the relevant material.

Contributed Papers

Authors should send an abstract of 1500 words (where the thesis defended
and the arguments backing them up should be clearly stated). Abstracts must
be submitted at:

https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ofa9

Abstracts should be arranged for blind anonymous review. Abstracts
containing self-identifying references (name, citations, publications,
acknowledgements or meta-data) will be disregarded. Information about
authors should be indicated on a separate title page including title of the
paper, author’s full name, e-mail address and affiliation. The selection
will be carried out by the members of our scientific committee and authors
will be informed by email of the final decisions (see deadlines bellow). If
the abstract is accepted, the author must send the final paper to be
presented at the workshop by 30 July 2013.

Note: Authors may also express their interest to participate as
commentators.

Commentators

Those interested in participating as commentators should send their data
(name, e- mail address, affiliation and a short CV) to < ofaworkshop AT
gmail.com >. A description of the main areas of philosophy they are
interested in will also be required.

Deadlines

Submitted abstracts will be accepted until 30 April 2013. The result of the
selection process will be communicated to the authors by mid June 2013.
Speakers must send the final version of their papers before 30 July 2013.

Description

OFA (Oficina de Filosofia Analítica) is a graduate workshop in analytic
philosophy, broadly contrued. OFA’s main goal is to provide a stimulating
environment for graduate students and recent post-docs to present and
discuss their research. OFA accepts submissions from Portuguese
researchers, researchers based in Portugal, and from international
researchers. OFA aims to reinforce the academic links between the
Portuguese and the international community of researchers in philosophy,
contributing to their training and raising their standing in the overall
international scene.

OFA is co-organized by the Portuguese Philosophy Society (SPF) and the
Portuguese Society for Analytic Philosophy (SPFA) since 2006. From 2012,
the LanCog research group joined the two societies in its organization.
